Schengen C type visa or short-term visa:

 

Schengen visa is a visa that gives a foreigner the right to stay in Latvia and in other Schengen member states – Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Island, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland – for a period indicated in visa sticker.

 

National (type-D) visa or long-stay visa:

 

An individual single/double/multiple entry visa enabling a foreign national to enter the Republic of Latvia within the specified period of time and stay for the term indicated in the visa.

Long–stay visa is issued:

 

The maximum term of validity of a long-stay visa is one year.

Instructions on completing the Schengen visa application form

The visa application form must be fully completed and signed by the applicant. Applications of minors are to be signed by a person with parental authority or a legal guardian.

The form must present full information and true statements. The answers must contain the required information, or the replies of “Yes” or “No”.

Incomplete or false information in the application form may lead to a refusal of a Schengen visa or to the annulment of a Schengen visa already granted.

 

How to complete the visa application form:

 

  1. Surname (family name) as it appears in the travel document (passport).
  2. Surname at birth or an earlier surname. If the surname has been changed several times, all earlier surnames must be specified.
  3. First name exactly as it appears in the travel document (passport).
  4. Date of birth in the following order: dd/mm/yyyy.
  5. Place of birth
  6. Country of birth
  7. Current nationality and nationality at birth, if it differs.
  8. Sex
  9. Marital status
  10. To be filled in if the visa is requested for a minor: surname, first name, address (if different from the address of the minor in question), nationality of the legal guardian.
  11. National identity number if applicable.
  12. Type of passport used for travelling and for requesting the visa.
  13. Number of the travel document (passport).
  14. The date when the travel document (passport) was issued.
  15. The date when the travel document (passport) expires.
  16. The issuing institution as printed in the travel document (passport).
  17. The applicant’s home address, email address and phone number.
  18. To be filled in only if the applicant resides in a country other than the country of his/her current nationality (for instance, a Ukrainian national staying in Russia with a residence permit).
  19. Occupation or position.
  20. The employers name and address, phone number. For students, name and address of the educational institution.
  21. Purpose of travel, if several all should be mentioned. Supporting documents are to be provided for the main purpose of travel only.
  22. The member state of the main destination. In case of transit, the final destination.
  23. The Schengen member state that is the intended first point of entry into the Schengen area.
  24. Number of entries requested.
  25. The intended number of days in the Schengen area.
  26. Schengen visas issued during the past three years, also those issued by Latvia.
  27. Whether or not fingerprints have been collected when applying for a Schengen visa.
  28. In case of transit, specify whether an entry permit for the final country of destination is required, when applicable.
  29. Indicate the planned date of arrival in the Schengen area.
  30. Specify the planned date of departure from the Schengen area. When applying for a double entry or a multiple entry visa, indicate the date of the next intended departure from Schengen area.
  31. In case of a private visit, indicate the inviter’s first name, surname, address, email and phone number. In cases of individual tourism indicate the name, address and email of the hotel or other accommodation.
  32. Indicate the inviting party’s name, address, email, phone and the contact person within the organisation or company.
  33. Specify means of support during stay in the Schengen area. For minors specify the party (for instance, parents) covering the expenses and provide supporting documents for financial status.
  34. To be filled in by family members of EU, EEA or Swiss nationals only. Indicate personal data of EU, EEA or Swiss national.
  35. Indicate family ties to EU, EEA or Swiss nationals.
  36. Specify the location and date for submitting the application.
  37. The applicant’s personal signature on the printout of the form. A person with parental authority or a legal guardian signs on behalf of the minor.

 

After printing out the application form, indicate the place and date of submission. The applicant signs the form in person, thus declaring that he/she is aware of the rules of entering and staying in the Schengen area. The application form must be signed in two places – in Item 37 and at the end. The printout of the application form submitted at the mission consists of 5 pages (4 pages – the application form, 1 page – the application number and security code).

After printing out the application form, indicate the place and date of submission. The applicant signs the form in person, thus declaring that he/she is aware of the rules of entering and staying in Latvia. The application form must be signed in two places – in field next to # 35 and at the end of application form. The printout of the application form submitted at the mission consists of 5 pages (4 pages – the application form, 1 page – the application number and security code).

Instructions on scheduling an appointment in Latvian diplomatic and consular missions

The form must present full and true information. The answers must contain the required information. One E-mail address can be used for scheduling of no more than one appointment.

 

How to schedule an appointment:

 

1.      Scheduling an appointment

1.1.   For scheduling an appointment press „Scheduling an appointment” on the front page or after filling a Schengen visa application e-form press „Reserve an appointment”.

1.2.   After reading and accepting the terms and conditions press “Reserve an appointment”.

1.3.   On the next page choose representation where appointment will be scheduled. Then specify the number of persons (from 1 to 99), choose the calendar day of the visit and fill in the user validation. Press "Continue".

1.4.   When "Continue" is chosen system checks whether entered number of persons is less or equal to the number of available appointments on the chosen day.

1.5.   If the number of available appointments on the chosen day is less than the entered number of persons you must choose another day. If the number of available appointments is sufficient you can continue to schedule the appointment.

1.6.   Afterwards in the given time enter applicant’s data: First name; Surname; Number of travel document (passport); Nationality; Number of visa application e-form; E-mail address and Phone number. If the appointment is scheduled after filling the Schengen visa application e-form the personal data is automatically filled and the user only needs to verify the accuracy of the data.

1.7.   If the appointment is scheduled for several persons each additional person is added by pressing "Add another". The following data of each applicant should be provided: First name; Surname; Number of travel document (passport); Nationality; Number of visa application e-form.

1.8.   If "Send reminder e-mail about the appointment" has been selected the reminder e-mail will be sent to the specified e-mail 2 days before the date of an appointment.

1.9.   After filling the data of each applicant you must fill in the user validation and press "Save".

1.10.                    The system registers appointments at the given time for the given number of persons.

1.11.                    After scheduling the appointment the system generates a security code. If the appointment is linked to the Schengen visa application e-form the security code is the same as in the Schengen visa application e-form.

1.12.                    The next page displays information about the representation, appointment date, and security code and visa applicant (s) data. At the bottom of the page you can print data of scheduled appointment (by pressing "Print"), save data on your computer (by pressing "Save") and send data to the e-mail (fill in “E-mail address” and press "Send by e-mail"). The PDF (PortableDocumentFormat) is used for printing, saving or sending data of scheduled appointment. PDF supports at least Adobe Reader 7.x.

1.13.                    The data on the visa application e-form can be changed until the representation’s opening time on the appointment date.

2.      Cancelling an appointment

2.1.   For cancelling an appointment press „Scheduling an appointment” on the front page

2.2.   After reading and accepting the terms and conditions press “Cancel an appointment”.

2.3.   Enter: Name; Surname; the Security code for authentication. 

2.4.   The next page displays information about the representation, the appointment time, security code and applicant(s) data.

2.5.   At the bottom of the page you can cancel the appointment by pressing “Cancel an appointment”.

2.6.   After pressing “Cancel an appointment” the system deletes the scheduled appointment.

Technical requirements for using an electronic service “Visa Application”

 

Recommended resolution for website of public electronic service "Electronic visa application form - Visa Application" is 1024x768. Minimum resolution is 800x600 with at least 16-bit color. E-service works best with Internet Exporter 8.x, Mozilla Firefox 3.5, Google Chrome 6.x or higher Internet browser version.
